May brings something a little more new, it seems to have started on May 5, 2013 with all the sites in the index getting shifted around a bit. Since Saturday April 6 2013 Google search has had increased movement much more than usual. With top rankings moving to lower positions and page 2 results coming forward to page 1 over night. This leads us to believe that Google update April is occurring.

Google Update April 2013

This Google update April 2013 appears to be much different then the other updates from the past. Different in the fact that search engine rankings began to move on Saturday and are currently still moving a lot today, Tuesday April 9 2013.

Continuous Rolling Updates

As we talked about in Continuing Google Update March 2013 EVERFLUX, new Google updates are beginning to be continuous and not manually performed any more. The difference that has been identified with this is that occurrences are happening over days instead of the entire search update being pushed out in 1 day.

Identifying

Google is making it harder to gauge how to fix the new Google updates by making them rolling continuous updates because it is harder to identify exactly why they are occurring. By rolling them out over a few days time it now takes several days to identify what the algorithm is assessing as good or bad. However, this is what Google wants. For seo’s and internet marketers to be on their heels and not be able to manipulate the algorithm.

Solutions

Well the weather finally calmed down yesterday Monday March 25 2013, as high temperatures have been occurring since Friday March 22 2013. Usually when we see temperatures this high at Mozcast a Google update is occurring. However, as Matt Cutts and the Google web spam team mentioned, there will be no more confirmations of updates from Google. This does not mean we won’t be seeing them in action!

On Twitter yesterday on the Mozcast profile the question was asked is this a “Panda Everflux.” Well Google is constantly changing the algorithm so therefore it is always changing anyway. Now it just has more heat behind it and a much bigger punch to the websites that are hurt by this flux.

Recent Reports
On Monday at Seo Hop there was a post published to find out exactly what is going on. A large website in the UK had reached out and said their website lost rankings over the weekend.

Is It Connected?
I do think this is something new with the recent activity and is not connected to the Google Update Panda #25 on March 15 2013.There was no continuous activity from March 15th to now. There is continuous activity from March 22-25th. The longest span of time of high activity we have seen so far.

On the other hand Matt Cutts did mention that the Google Updates will now be rolling updates and would be continuous instead of manually being pushed out. Now we are seeing a new generation of Google updates after two years of manual updates.

I was contacted by a large website owner this morning. His exact words were “Hi, our website lost ranking this week end and I was wondering if it was an effect from the 18mars Google panda update.” My response, “let me go check a few things.” Next response, “where are you located.”

In checking around to help this person in need, I noticed several different movements from this weekend revolving around Google search.

1. The Mozcast weather forecast is way up there in the Google update zone. Usually when there is an update, the mozcast weather falls between 75 to 80 degrees. This is what happened this weekend. Now we have our first piece of evidence of an update occurring in the Google search algorithm.

2. Serpmetrics also is showing a higher than normal forecast. Up to the highest level in the past 30 days. That means whatever activity occurred this weekend was greater than the Google update panda #25 on march 15, according to Serpmetrics.
