On January 17, 2013 the UK saw a major shake up in Google search as a suspected Penguin update had occurred.
Today on January 25, 2013 we are hearing reports that some rankings have gone back to their usual spots. People are wondering if this was a Google update dance or a bug in the algorithm.
On our blog post, Suspected Panda or Penguin Google Update January 17 2013 UK We received the following comments regarding this Google penguin update dance.
“I just experience Google Dance, my site it back on its previous position with major keyword and with some keyword in a better rank. After the initial update all position drops. But just now I notice, one is back at the same position and other got a better position ( from page 4 to page 1) Just sharing it with your so that you can spread some light on it”
&
“If it is Google dance then it surely recovered”
However, this is not happening for everyone. This makes me think that it was an actual Google update and not just a shake up.
“Positions has not been returned to where they were in the UK. Looking at the rankings achieved by new websites seem to be very stable at this point of time and chances are, These are the final rankings (Google has to offer). Since there is no statement issued by Google so far. Guys are hard to make a decision on what to change in their upcoming seo strategy.”
What’s Really Happening
As with other Google updates, the same things are happening with this update. When the changes first roll out they are very strong and harsh. Over the next few days the changes seem to get pulled back and the harshness gets softer, the update gets weaker.
Google Testing
As you know Google is always testing. So in their tests they will send out the strongest signals first to see the results and pull back what they feel should be taken back. This is how they learn what they want to see in the algorithm. So when an update hits, the first few days will be the worst until things calm down.
