Today we are noticing a Google search engine results page update. Another update has obviously come through to disrupt the results we are used to at the moment. This is the first update in December 2012.
Website listings are moving about the Google search rankings and new websites are being listed.
New local listings are taking ahold of the top spots in some searches as Google tests these new listings in certain areas. I have also noticed that where there was once a long list of about 7 local results has be tuned down to 3 local results with the update.
The last noted update before this one was the Google Panda #22 Update on November 21, 2012. This was previously announced by the Google search team as the seo community was confused about movement of Google search on the 16th of November, 2012.
One Day Later December 6th, 2012 – There is major movement in the search results today, much more than yesterday. Seems that more spammy sites are ranking in #1 spots then before. The reason I can say this is because I know the link profiles of the people that were at the top of some searches 2 days ago and they definitely deserve to be there over the people that are there now. Google it looks like you have to roll this update/refresh back quickly because it is not helping Google search quality.
Google search continues its love for brands as you can see in in the picture on the right. Brands now stand out more then ever with full listings next to their serp listing. This includes photos, maps, directions, reviews, address, reviews from other sites, and similar competitors in the geographic area.
